Strength Training Keeps You Young
Keeping your bones and muscles strong will give you a better quality of life as you get older. There is no doubt about the results of the research on this topic.
As you get older your muscles weaken so that pushing a shopping cart or getting in and out of a car become difficult. Strength training to keep your bones and muscles strong will not only improve the quality of your life but it can also eliminate depression and improve the quality of your sleep.
Whatever it takes to avoid falling is the goal of every doctor who has patients that are inactive or headed toward senior citizenship. The reason is that muscle strength is tied to balance and good balance reduces your risk of falling. Falls, believe it or not, are the leading cause of death and injury in adults over 65.
To get to the everyday nitty gritty, you also need balance for walking since we balance on one foot while the other leg is in motion. You also need balance just to stand on one foot while doing simple tasks.
The exercises that make muscles strong also put stress on the bones and prevent them from becoming fragile. Strong muscles and bones also help your posture and good posture helps you stand tall and walk with confidence.
Your first step is to get your physician’s okay that you can begin a fitness program. Your doctor’s clearance is especially important if you are recovering from an illness or haven’t done anything very physical in over a year.
